Lafayette, je t'aime

Feature within a feature? Featureception? Feature hijack---ugh, where's DiCaprio when you need him?

Bonjour à tous! It's been awhile, I know. But you'll soon be graced with stories and more listings of your favorite local and not so local bands.

My reason for this brief hiatus from my hiatus is to show you this article by Yahoo! Travel.
(Link is in the caption below)
Is This Tiny Southern Town the New Austin?

When we first began this endeavor to list music and highlight little known artists, our dream was to see Lafayette become an even larger hub for music, food, art, and culture than it already has become. And I know most of us have seen in the past few years just how much positive recognition Lafayette has gained, so it's nothing new to us, but I love to see how people outside of our little heaven appreciate said little heaven. This article caught my attention because a few years ago, I became acquaintances with a few guys from Baton Rouge who were here visiting Lafayette. (I have no idea where they are now, and as you'll see by the end of this anecdote, good riddance.) They met up with my friends and I downtown and the entire night would not shut up about how "Lafayette is great--but it's nothing like Austin." After the fifth time hearing this within a two-hour stretch, I finally told them to please leave for Austin immediately. So when I saw this headline, they popped into my mind. We've become such a grand place where more people are coming to visit and even more are coming to stay. At my day job, I come into constant contact and have lengthy conversations with people from other cities and states, even other countries sometimes. And the universal impression of Lafayette? There's no place like this one. So, good on you, Lafayette. Keep climbing!

You know, I almost wish I were still in contact with those Baton Rouge fellas because I'd probably send this article to them five times within two hours with the caption "Austin is great, but it's nothing like Lafayette."

Be on the lookout in December for the return of artist features! Until then, happy listening!
