Dylan fans: A mini post for your reading pleasure.

The New Basement Tapes

Ah, the famous "basement tapes" of Bob Dylan. In 2014 or so, someone found a box chock full of Dylan's lyrics in the same house he recorded his sixteenth album, so Dylan gave it to T Bone Burnett. They were never produced so what does Burnett do? Assemble the avengers of modern music: Jim James, Elvis Costello, Marcus Mumford, Taylor Goldsmith, and Rhiannon Giddens to bring the previously unknown music to life. Oh, by the way...it was all done in two weeks. Their goal was to mimic the artistic freedom of the original basement tapes.
Showtime did a documentary on the production of the precious contents of the box. Here
is a clip from the production of Kansas City. Johnny Depp fans, rejoice. He just showed up to look pretty. And play the guitar...yea that too.

"When I Get My Hands on You" probably has the best sultry, seductive sound I've heard outside of Lionel Richie. (Sorry, I'm a folk fan, people.) And say what you will about Mumford and Sons, Marcus has the voice of a god. I've heard him on videos of the absolute worst quality and he still sounds better than all of the singers on mainstream radio. So yea, he was a great choice for this.

If Dylan can trust Burnett, so can you. Check them out.
